Some Grateful Statues: The Aesthetics of Storytelling presented by Helen Nicholson
Thursday February 2nd, 5.30pm – 6.30pm
This workshop draws on Helen’s work in Japan, and explores the traditional tale of the statues of Jizo, a deity. The workshop is built on the idea that citizenship finds expression in personal and public narratives, and finds expression in the aesthetic languages, metaphors, images and symbols that are present in drama and theatre.

“*Hamlet* Unbound: Exploring Plays Through Process Drama” presented by Kim Snider and Stephen Wei, Council of Ontario Drama and Dance Educators (CODE)
Saturday February 4th, 10.30am – 12.00pm
This experiential workshop, suitable for teachers and non-teachers alike, aims to deconstruct the traditional scene study approach of being “thrown a script” to memorize and stage for an audience. Using the process drama techniques of Jonothan Neelands, David Booth and Dorothy Heathcote, we will explore Shakespeare’s *Hamlet* through creative play, improvisation, and other in-role work. Learn valuable techniques for harnessing students’ creativity and sense of play in the classroom as a “way in” to studying texts of all kinds.
